  • sooo how're the zerostarts working?

Any feedback on how effective the zerostarts have been during the cold snap?

Great, just wish I had enough outlets so I could have the pan heater running as well.

1000 watt. I plug it in 4 hours before hand start up and it goes to 90 and stays. Works awesome.

Would have worked great if the plug I used today was working. Nothing like a 1.9L chunk of ice!

Did it start? I have just parked mine in this cold.....I hate the horrible noise it makes when it is so cold.

                    winter gas/gasline antifreeze

make sure your tank is relatively full.

This doesn't really help with getting the car to start, but i leave my window open a tiny crack to let the moisture out of the car so i don't get ice build-up on the inside of the glass.

After multiple attempts to boost it and about 15-20 minutes it did. Battery is solid as it has no problems starting when plugged it. Last night I made sure I found my cord with the light in it!

Started mine up at -43 the other day, she grumbled but started on the first try. I usually plug in the oil pan pad which makes a huge difference but I forgot to in this instance. I let it run for 20 minutes after before driving it though.

The thing that pisses me off the most is trying to get it into reverse so i can back out of the driveway. So now I leave it in reverse when I shut it off. (This is due to the short shifter.)

in the VW manuals it tell you not to let your car run (idle) to warm it up its says to just drive moderately until car is warm. for those of us in really cold climates(-30 or more) do you think this rule should still apply.

for the sake of the car i'd say give it at least 5-10 mins in the cold, more for the sake of your comfort.

YES!!! Never let a diesel cold idle. You want to get the cylinders up to a high enough temperature to get full combustion as soon as possible.

If you want to idle to warm up, you need to be able to set a high idle.
