  • No block heater for Touaregs?

My mum's truck is frozen and won't start up and I'm being told by the Parts dept. at South Centre that there are no block heaters for Touaregs. None. Whatsoever.

This seems extremely strange due to the climate we live in....

Does anyone know if there are ANY block heaters that are compatible with Touaregs?

You could get that thing that warms and cycles your coolant?

that sucks.. oilpan heaters work well, and probably not a warranty issue since they don't alter any existing parts. Pretty safe in a touareg, not likely that you will smack the oilpan on anything.

If someone could posts links to an aftermarket one, or the thing that cycles warm coolant, that would be great. My folks are pretty pissed off as the sales guy told them it had a block heater. Might be a good excuse to trade up to a Cayenne... or wait, do those have the same block heater issue?

Oilpan heater should be all you need, we never had block heaters. I had one on mine for the first 2 years of outside condo parking and it started like a champ. Just sticks to the pan. Just run the wire up high so it doesn't drag and fray on the road (where the fire warning comes from).

Edit: OEM one looked a lot like these:

none of the newer vw/audis have block or oilpan heaters.. no idea on the block but the oilpan ones apparantly caused fires due to all the friggin underbelly plastic.. but like geoff posted those work swell

Why would it void warranty? I would get an oil pan heater available at Gregg Distributors.

                    because it's VW.
i seen the most bizarre things that they pulled complete warranty off cars for.

i agree oil pan heater is the way to go.
250 watts max wont burn anything if they fall off.

oh yeah make sure it's a kit that comes with the silicone to seal around the edges as well.
we sell the Euro Kit for 95 bucks i think?

Re: No block heater for Touaregs?

oil pan heaters were never a factory thing. my car had one on my original pan but i got rid of it. its something dealers added on themselves. they caught fire cause they were probably cheap as beet soup.

if a new touareg is having problems starting, esp since is a gasser well something wrong with that picture.

the reason they would catch fire is if you installed them wrong ... any amount of air bubles and the will burn tooo hot so you need a little roler to work out the air bubbles . otherwise the element seperates falls off and will burn the belly pan .i run them on all of my cars and recomend them over the coolant style you have to cut the hoses for

I spoke to someone at Gregg Distributors and they were not too sure which would be more appropriate for a 03 passat 1.8 the 125 Watt 3' round model or the 250 Watt 4"x4.5" model. Does anyone know? Thanks alot.
