How to Race Ryan Style :P

    1. Bring car to racecity with spare tire, golf clubs and laptop in trunk.
    2. get nervous as hell cuz your a newbie mang
    3. have 3 crappy runs to get your body loosened up
    4. rev to 3000 and hold clutch that .1second too long and then proceed to go 1mph down the track cuz you over heated your clutch
    5. pull around ending bend to head back to track and have your heart sink because you smell burnt clutch and begin to swear and cry
    6. give up and quit for the night and possibly forever right there
    7. remember next time not to worry so much
    8. drive home worrying about your clutch/warranty.
9.drive around paranoid for 3 days testing your clutch's intergrity out only to find out its fine and you shouldn't be so worried
    10. get ripped at the rippers

That's called power shifting and it's very bad for the tranny. You do get about a .2 sec gain doing it.

I believe in racing with the car "AS IS". Not "Excuse me a sec while I remove half my interior, then lets race". I drive with a back seat and spare tire, so I'll race with one.

I am however going to put my stock winter wheels on next secret street and compare the differences in wheel weight. I have over 20 runs logged so it should be interesting stats.

And if anyone wants to race me, I'll bring my other vehicle and spank you - chip or not. :whipped:

Stop spewing and get your ass to the track. Oh... and you can't use your bald tires as an excuse this time!

Yo Geoff... let me try the track in your car... I'll bet I can get high 15's... just a guess.

Actually - if my runs don't change with the 15s I will take you up on it (or maybe Jamie who ran 15.5 with a stock 1.8 that night).

I have no illusions that I can launch this car properly - however I have driven manual for 10 years, including turbos and can launch my bike very quick. So I'm thinking its the fact I can't hear anything with my helmet on - much like how I shift worse with the stereo cranked.

One other thing - I have close to 20 timeslips on my desk (entering in excel) that differ by less than 3 100ths. And thats with clutch riding, droping, asr on, asr off, different parts of the track, hell 1 run I staged way early and was able to hold a perfect 3000 rpms for the launch. Half of them I didn't even care about the other driver or the lights (the clock doesn't start till I move). All that variation and NO run below 16.8? You'd think statistically a fluke good run would happen no?

                Anyways, its for my amusement.

The only part that's hard on the car is the clutch slide. And I guarantee you slip it just as bad when you are on a hill with the AC on.

I don't care if I burn the clutch - good excuse to upgrade to a bigger one.

I do since my car is 5 months old.. maybe in a year I wouldn't care but for now. I don't drive with AC on unless I'm doing over 80 and highway speeds.. it takes too much power low down for city stop and go I hate it so I just unroll the windows and live with it.

You might want to know a problem with not using the a/c for a long time which the coolant will clog the hose and that is difficult to repair.

I think the 1.8T engine is not really that bad of having a hard time to power the a/c pump. 8HP is exaggerating on how much power will take with the a/c turn on. BTW. A 5HP Honda engine a/c unit is able to use in a 30 seats mini bus.

Correct me If I'm wrong... But last time I checked, Power-shifting didn't involve using the clutch at all!? Used to do it in my 5.0 all the time....

                              Cheers...
