if its a tdi, you won't likely have a block heater. Options are inline coolant heater, and oil pan heater. You should find some lengthy discussions on here about them.

i believe he means times 2, as in he wants to know too. Napa has them, i got one today along with the inline coolant heater.

My car did not want to go this morning, had to boost it for a while until i had enough to get going, gonna be going out every few hours tonight to make sure i get going in the morning as its supposed to be -38. And tomorrow the battery warmer and circulating heater go in. hopefully that will change my outcome when it gets this cold again.

which is why oilpan heaters are nice.

Put in a new OEM battery that i picked up from Tunedub. See how things go in the morning. It gon' be cold!

started with relative ease this morning. cycle the plugs 3 times and had lots of juice for cranking. battery was definitely the issue.

I am a optima exclusive dealer .i even stock the reverse terminal units needed to fit mk4 cars . they are better than any other battery made hands down . i have gone with all kinds of brands here at the shop . but nothing performs like an optima . they have 800cca where stock is only 5-600, and can survive more battery kills than liquid acid battery's (left the lights on type crap) and have the best warranty. i have installed 15 of them this month , they can never leak acid onto the fan control modual (very common) and most of my customers say there electrical systems work better after its installed .

unfortunately, CCA is not that useful in a TDI. Cold cranking amps are front loaded, and really can't be sustained for very long. Once you cycle the glow plugs a few times, you've really cut in to the power it can deliver. Amp hours are key in a TDI. 70 amp hour on oem, 44 on Optima red top. So really, they are awesome for a gasser, but there are better choices for a diesel.

It was down to -40 ambient yesterday and again -37 today. The TDI started first try sitting in a "garage" that is really an unheated concrete structure with 1 open wall (IE doesn't do **** in terms of keeping the heat in). The car was not plugged in either. I do have a new battery though.

This is in Saskatoon btw, so I reguarly have to put up with much colder weather than back home in Calgary but the car has never given me any problems.
