  • Took my friends 2002 1.8T for a spin

Well I was trying out my friends 2002 1.8T standard (stock) and it had a completely different feel to it. It felt juicier throughout the power band. Then I took mine out again and it was faster to about 3500RPM but really bogged down around 4000-redline.

    Possible problems:

    1) auto/tiptronic transmission
    2) too much back pressure because of 2.5" DP mated to the stock exhaust
    3) upsolute "tip" version
    4) Bad MAF
    5) Bad o2

    Anyone have any suggestions?

      lol, true....

Also I think my cars been running really lean. There is a noticeable amount of dark black residue around my exhaust in the past 2 weeks.

You mean rich then? The club has a VAG -- and if you’re a member -- it's part of your member benefits.

Dude... you worry way too much about your car. If it's just chipped... with a downpipe and engine mounts... it's not going to blow-up on you as you drive it down merry-marsha-lane. Lean is red hot. Rich is sticky and black.

Come on man... stay sharp... I'm losing you here... :(

The Automatic trans. Residue on the tip could be moisture in gas. No CEL all good.
