"H" for life! I have, now, just learned how to step on the gas WOT... without the turbo spooling. Our cars are actually kinda quick without a turbo... and when you do activate the turbo... ****... she takes off!
yea the H is more aggressive but some said it would over spike then go into limp so they went with J which worked.. either way I guess.. can always sell either
nah yours is good peter.. i meant some people apparantly overspike.. it happens to some and others it don't.. same goes with surging i guess.. peters car was fun.. .. i wouldn't mind taking a rip in paul or mikes 24v to see what i missed from not buying a vr6.. never even test drove it..first go with the 1.8t and i was sold
I finally installed my "J" valve last night. If you're installing one of these be careful, it goes in backwards compared to the stock valve. So the connector will now be facing towards the driver, not towards the front of the car.
I had some occasional surging going on before I bought the valve- the first thing I noticed is that the surging went bye-bye. Previously if you watched my boost gauge it would kind of bounce up and down before finding its final pressure. For instance it would spike to about 20, then drop to 14, then bounce up to 17, then bounce down to 15, then back up to settle somewhere around 16psi. Now what it does is go right to about 19psi and slowly drop off until about 13 psi at 6000 rpms. This is much better than bouncing!
Watching the gauge, it seems like I am spending less time at the higher boost levels but more time at the chip-advertised boost levels. With less of an initial "spike" there is less of a seat-of-your-pants accelleration feeling off the line. However I am very sure that I have gained overall power with this mod.
Compared to what I have observed about the N75H it is much different. The H really spikes you up the extra couple PSI at the beginning, and holds that spike for a few seconds. I do not get this behavior. However, the H also seems to fall off faster after the spike - it takes a fairly long time for my gauge to drop off, it is very gradual.
In summary, I would recommend a new N75 to anyone who is chipped. When choosing your valve, decide if you want that big-boost up front feeling or more of a slow boost progression. I think they will probably be about the same in terms of dyno or drag performance. Both valves seem to make improvements over the stock valve on a chipped car.
Kor thats a great write up. Your stock "F" valve bounced around the RPM range or when shifting? How much was the j valve and where did ya get it? Im leaning towards a smoother boost curve.

My stock valve would bounce after shifting, it would take about 3 or 4 seconds to "settle out" then would just sit at whatever ~15-16psi.
I went to Glenmore Audi for the J valve. They changed me something like $101.00 plus tax and I had to order it in. It took 3 days. I've only driven with the valve once, to test it... I can give some more feedback once my ankle heals a bit more
