  • mK3 Jetta with Mk4 locks and fobs????

I'm sick of having issues with the air lock system on my 94, only the front passenger and rear driver side doors work......again.
I would like to switch it to the mk4 keyless fob system but I don't know anything about them. Are they on the air pump like the mk3's, or are they electronic locks? Could I replace my system with the mk4 lock cyclinders, fob's, modules and all?
I really know dickall about mk4's so any help will save me alot of headache and trips to SCFC

WHAT YOU could do is find a competent install shop to put in a good alarm and some mechanical lock actuators ...but i don't know how it would work since the mk3 locks are kinda stiff . might be too much for the actuators...

What exactly are your issues you are having with your airpumps in the Mk3?

Mk3 and Mk4 alarm/key fob systems are totally different. To get it to work properly involves a lot more work then it's actually worth.

graeme's right. as i was eluding to in my first post, it will be easier to trouble shoot and fully fix your current system than swapping over. It's actually not too bad to sort out once you get some pieces of your car apart to see the vaccum lines. and soap and water in a spray bottle is all you need to test the hoses.
Yes it's a bit of a PITA, but switching is even worse

And they link I posted doesn't even get rid of the current air lock system your car has :P
Thats just so you can use a Mk4 Key Fob.

Re: mK3 Jetta with Mk4 locks and fobs????

Thanks guys, my main issue with the air system is that I'll get all doors working then one two ro three of them won't lock but the pump keeping running. Get it fixed again then repeat. I've got no issues with alarm system just the doors are pissing me off, every time I lock the doors from the passenger side (oh I forgot to mention that I'm missing the driver's side lock cylinder cuz someone tried to jack my car awhile back) I have to reach threw and push down the driver's lock and the rear passenger one.
My dream system would be using mk4 switchblade fobs and using mechanical acuators in the doors so I don't have to deal with the vacuum lines anymore. But if its too much work than worth I could live with it but having the switchblades and being keyless would be nice.

another question on top of the system switch. Does anyone know how to switch a mk3 key onto the fob? I've tried searching vortex but I'm not using the proper keywords I guess.
