Driving home yesterday, I had a continuous "noise" coming from the right rear door area (as much as I could localize it while driving). In traffic it sounded like one of those duct vacuum trucks was running nearby. No change in sound by change in speed, or by revving while stopped. No surging or drivability issues.
I'm thinking it's the fuel pump starting to make noise. Anybody else experience this...and am I thinking in the right direction?
Car is a 2001 Golf GLS 1.8t, about 134xxx km.
The driver's door micro-switch is busted, so the pump doesn't "prime" when I open the door like normal..hasn't been for a while. And, a couple times recently, I've noticed that a warm start takes a long time to fire (engine has been running...turn off, then try to start again...doesn't "immediately" fire like normal).
Yeah, I'm thinking fuel pump...
