  • Chip & Turbo Back

Does anyone know where I can get a Chip and Turboback other than Concept1? I have a feeling that they are a little overpriced as far as a chip goes, the price of a turbo back seems somewhat fair. I'm looking for another VW performance shop in Calgary, that I could compare with, or even save a couple dollars. Oh I drive a 2002 GTI 1.8T. Thanks.

EDIT: If you purchased online that would be helpful also. I was looking for an APR turboback because I love the sound; not too loud, not too quiet (for me atleast)

I would check out Calgary Auto Works, They specialize in Audi and VW and they are just a few blocks from C1. They have helped me out alot.

C1 may be a little bit more money, but at least the service you get before, and after you buy your gear is always good. There always wanting to help you out, and to me thats worth the tiny bit extra.

That kind of service is more then i can say about some dealers around here.

I'd have to 100% agree, with APR you pay for what you get and it's a great product. I've also got the APR exhaust and fully loaded chip and i couldn't ask for more. Well unless it was a stage 3+ kit.

C1 APR prices are set by APR. You want the flexibility of multiple programs, switchable with the cruise, the lockout, valet mode, vtune - it's money. There is a revo dealer in CY now I think, and Upsolute is pretty much the same power program just with no frills. Something for everyone.

                Re: Chip & Turbo Back

Hey guys. I just had to make sure that I was getting the best value for my dollar. I know that some items from concept-1 are questionable when it comes to pricing, but none the less they most often to quality work. I was thinking of a 2.5" turbo back because I dont think I'll ever upgrade the turbo, so I dont see the point of a 3". How much would it cost to get them to install? ~$100?

Thanks for all the replys. Very helpful, unlike the vortex where people just post up pictures of cats or flame you and tell you to get what they like, instead of telling you your options with what YOU want. I feel this is a good community and feels great!!

                      Re: Chip & Turbo Back

If your planning on keeping your factory turbo, i suggest you stick with a 2.5" system. I think 3" on a stock K03 is overkill. Also, if your on a budget, I hear the Megan Racing Downpipe is a good option with a very good price. I've seen pics of this downpipe and the bends and welds look very good (not to mention its stainless steel aswell). Please keep in mind that this downpipe does not come with a cat. As a result, it will throw a CEL and it will cause your exhaust (stock or aftermarket) to sound a little louder. As for the software, most tuners have comparable performance gains. Asking which is best usually turns into a popularity contest. I do know that REVO has a CEL delete built into their software, thus eliminating the CEL caused by a catless downpipe.

I usually dont promote e-bay items such as Megan Racing, however ive seen good reviews and it looks pretty good. It might be worth researching further. This way you can save a few bucks and still get the APR catback.

I would consider selling mine, Upsolute 94 program, brullen DP w/cat, and supersprint cat back

Megan racing products are hit and miss. Nearly all of them 'look' like they have nice welds and a nice finish, but I have several friends who've purchased them only to have them not fit at all, or fall apart. I also know a few people who were happy with there's, so who knows. I wouldn't risk it b/c who knows what kind of BS return policy the ebay seller has in case its junk.

Why are you limiting yourself to buying in Calgary. I buy nothing here, for the simple reason I can bring it in from the states and Vancouver by courier for cheaper than what it costs to buy in town.

I am most definately going to buy the chip here. I do not want to send away my ECU. As for the APR turbo back, I want it new. I find that concept-1 can supply this APR exhaust for close to the same cost as it would if I had bought it from the states after duty/brokerage/shipping. Everything else from my car has been shipped from other members on the vortex and american online stores. I do agree that much money can be saved by buying from down south.
