  • The difference between the K03 Turbo and the K04

So many people think the K04 is a bigger turbo... well... it is and it isn't. I'll let the pictures and the comments explain! (p.s. ignore the massive pic size and logo -- these were taken last summer -- prototype branding).

K03 on the left -- it's bigger bro -- K04 on the right.

K03 intake impeller... notice that there really isn't a huge amount of room for air to be stored...

K04 intake impeller... lots more room... bigger blade fans.

    Brand spanking new K04 turbo!

    The K03 internal wastegate.

A very USED K03 turbo (approx. 40,000KM use).

The install... that's Sean Fournier working away...

About 3AM... the install takes a while! lol

That's all for now. Any questions... PM Sean or myself.

Thats Sean's car that they K04 went into, but it has since been replaced with bigger and better turbos. Peter is trying to tell us that when he upgrades his turbo it will be something better then a k04!

Very nice! If you switch to a K04 what parts are needed to do the swap? New ECU?

K04 requires well 225TT DV or better, K04 turbo, and custom ECU programming from neuspeed or GIAC and i beleive Up has it too.. APR and revo do not for K04

Ok guys... the point of this thread was to show you how there is a VERY little difference between the K03 and the K04. These pictures were taken like last year (notice my black Jetta). Sean is no longer running this turbo... for the reason that it really didn't add much HP or Torque.

After many posts and conversations I was convinced that the turbo upgrade of choice for my Jetta would be a T3/T4 with 46 trim and .48 AR. It should spool early and not run out at the top.

I can see why trying a K04 is appealing though since you can just bolt it on, upgrade your ECU and you're good to go. Lots of people sell K04's cheap. I agree that the gains would not be incredible but probably more than you get from a CAI or TIP or other tiny mods we do.
