  • New Used Car

    Hello,
I am in the process of buying a new vehicle in the next three months and I was wondering a couple things I was hoping someone could clear up. I like the new Jetta's but I'd rather not go into debt for one of them; I could pony up for a basic Rabbit however. The other option I was looking at was a 2003+ 1.8T Jetta (I've liked the MkIV Jetta's since they came out).

    1) In terms of CPO - Would it be recommended to also have an inspection done at TuneDub (if they do those)?
1.A) On a CPO would a Carproof be redundant?
    2) Opinion based question, but would a 2003+1.8T Jetta be better then a 07/08 Rabbit (Reliability, fun to drive)
    3) There are a few new VW owner's threads that I read through, but is there anything more recent that a new VW owner should know?
    4) Would the Derek H. fellow be the person to talk to still? (I think he is at 5th Ave?)

It'll be my first time buying so I am a bit confused on these points and hope to avail on all your expertise.

    Cheers

    Re: New Used Car

    GET A 20th (2003) or 337(2002) GTi
You get the 1.8 and its plethora of aftermarket goodies.
    The TT's 6 speed tranny. .
    Factorly lowered, Recaros.. etc;
Trust me.. the search will be worth it.. put up wanted ads..
Actually, the huge VW forum Vortex, helped get the 337 (German 25th Anniversary GTi) to North America.. so its truely the enthusiast's car. =D

They are quite rare tho.. 250 VW GTi 337's in canada.. and 200 GTi 20th Annis.

The search might not be as labor intensive as one might think

                      Re: New Used Car

Thanks karna, the snowed in parking kills a 337 for me I think. If only I could claim my spot somehow...such as an inflatable car haha, then I wouldn't have to crunch through a foot of snow anymore.

I put an offer on a nice Jetta today (I've always liked Jettas since the MkIV's came out), thanksgiving so they can look at it till Wednesday and we'll see how it goes. There was a secondary 03 Wolfsburg 1.8T that was also a candidate if the offer doesn't pan out. But that one is from Ontario and I didn't get a good look at the underbody for Eastern Salty Rust, water pump/timing belt probably haven't been changed either so that's a problem I think, and the tires are running a optimistic 50%. But clean interior.

Silverfire, left you a PM. Have to sit in a GLI to see what leather is like, details in pm about that. Perhaps I've also not liked leather in some other cars because they were more the lowerend and cheaper leather (if there is such a thing), don't know.
