  • Another Recall on VW's Conscience

Every recall VW has just cements the (arguably overstated) reputation for poor quality.

"Those of you rolling in a Volkswagen Jetta or Rabbit that was hecho en Mexico, take note: VW is recalling 340,000 vehicles sold in the U.S. (and Canada?) due to a headlamp defect. The recall stems from rubber caps that could be missing from the horizontal and vertical headlight alignment screws, something that's apparently required by federal safety standards. A V-Dub spokesman said that there was no danger to drivers, and beginning today, owners could have the parts replaced at a local Volkswagen dealer."

Recalls are nothing new. It's cheaper to do the work at the dealer than it is at the factory I guess.

Re: Another Recall on VW's Conscience

Its nothing new but VW has a bad rep for quality and a lot of publications and media factor in the number of recalls and number of recalled vehicles to come up with their quality and reliability ratings.

I couldn't care less about this one but I think that it does hurt the company's image to have recalls.

          ^^^

Definitely. I'm sure we're all going to hear on some other non-vw based forum for the next few years how VW's are STILL unreliable peices of garbage. They see VW hasn't made any progress on such things as JDPower's reliability ratings, and they won't know that some stupid little rubber caps where missing from the headlights.

The hardcore dubbers don't really care about recalls or what JD Power says. It's all about brand loyalty. It's cultist I tell ya.

It only looks bad to people who haven't owned a VW for a long period of time. I do know some people that have had lemons and it turned them off for life though. VW has needed to get on top of these problems for years and have failed to do so.

many of the problems and "lemons " That people had was due in large part to the fact the techs working on them wernt given enuf training or support to fix the issues properly . because now that we know almost all the fixes for the mk4 they are awsome . imo

agreed, plus brand loyalty isn't as common anymore, people now want certain things in a vehicle and will go to whatever brand to get it (to a point).

Also, I disagree that the "hardcore dubbers" won't care. When I was looking for a new car I was very nervous, especially because the 2 cars we were looking at (Jetta and Passat) were new to the market and I remembered all the issues the mk4 and B5 passat guys had (and lets face it still have). In the end, that was one of the decisions that caused me not to buy.

I still WANT a new VW but when it actually comes time to shell out the cash it's tough.

But I bet 2 of those recalls where for the same thing (brake light switch).

If anyone knows about recalls its me.

But let me tell you forget about all that bull s h i t when your smoking STI's and bmw's. You say I love this car as you drive away in your non yeppy vey deadly VW.

If anyone out there should be ready to sell there VW after all the S H I T i went through its me. But there is not one car out there that i can think of that i would rather have, (except a R32 6 speed manual)

Every car company has problems, if you cant handle it sell your car, and take the LRT.

You had the turbo problem right?
I like that! Thats so true, and when its all said and done VW is still the way to go. Although the LRT would be the best way to get around Calgary now...
