  • Knocking

Hi, I have a 03 Passat 1.8 stock except it is Uped. I had an intercooler leak for a while (since before it was chipped a few months ago) that I just had fixed. Since the intercooler leak was repaired the car is more responsive but is now knocking under acceleration. I use 91 octane and tried different stations (only two tanks since repair). Any ideas?

You need to vag log it and see if the knock sensors are out of their range. Sounds very bad though because Calgary is at high altitude - you should be able to run 89 or even 87 without exceeding what the car can autoadjust. I'd switch the chip back out first though.

Thanks, though I don't like the sound of that. I would really appreciate any assistance from someone with a Vag-Com.

Thanks I will. Any one have any idea why this would happen after the intercooler was fixed? The car never knocked before that...

Well pretty much no more knocking. I have run a few tanks of gas through it since the problem began and it seems much better now. It started knocking after the intercooler was fixed but at that same time I filled up at Safeway in Crowfoot and have not since. Could it be their gas sucks?
