  • Upgraded my front speakers

Just thought I would share my project.

I have had my Pioneer Premier components for a while but I never thought of installing them in my golf until my factory cd player dies. I had read on the vortex that the stock speakers were weird ohms. Something like 6 ohms for the midrange and 2 ohms for the tweeter.

So the other day when I was upgrading my power line i had a look at the rear speaker. To my surprise it was 4 ohms. So then I had to investigate the front speakers. They turned out to be 4 ohms as well. I do realize the the factory monsoon amp is not ideal for my components, but it was worth a try.

Long story short, I installed them with there crossovers and they sound way better than the stock speakers. When my cd player dies I will bypass the factory equipment all together and amplify all the speakers separately.

What size did you use 5 1/4" or 6 1/2"? The spacers make the speakers look small.

    Install looks good BTW.

I had to do the rears first, on my car, used Infinity 605cs, and concept??? 6" in the front.

Most components will sound better than stock.
    put.......put.......

    .... ... .. .

Those look similar to the pioneer speakers I have. How thick did you make the spacers? If you make them about 1.5" they will be about in the same spot as the stock speakers so you are not firing sound into the door card. Also the front speakers are 6.5" if anyone was wondering.

So good mod then? I may pick up a couple sets of components as I've used them with success in the past...I'm sure they would sound better......Don't wait till your factory CD player dies....the change even run thru the monsoon amp with an aftermarket deck is amazing (I use a Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD unit)

I used some 1/4" mdf I had laying around. I should have built up a couple of 3/4" pieces to bring it out 1 1/2" like you said. I am happy with the sound though.

Made the spacer using 2 pieces of 3/4" MDF.

I did the tweeter using kitty hair and bondo.
Just make sure the speaker doesn't rub with the window down and you should be golden.

I did not bother spending the time to make mine look pretty.
