  • Importing a car to Canada

    Hey all,

Well... with the surge in the Canadian dollar versus the greenback, I'm sure a lot of you (me included) have thought more and more about perhaps importing a car to Canada. If anyone has no idea where to start, the Registrar of Imported Vehicles ( http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_import.html ) basically tells you everything you need to know.

Unfortunately for me, this really doesn't help me as the only vehicles I would be interested to import to Canada are the Audi RS4 (for which I cannot afford) or the '04 VW R32 (which is inadmissible) to Canada.

With that said, does anyone have any idea why I can find used R32's for sale in Canada, even though you are not supposed to import them to Canada?

Anyhow, if anyone has imported a vehicle from the U.S. or has any info./stories of their own... please post up.

    Cheers...

The only R32s that are for sale in Canada have salvage or rebuild titles I believe.

yea...quebec u will have the best chance since thats the only province that allows/allowed salvaged r32s to be brought in.

I have heard most of the R32s that are registered in Quebec will not be registrable outside of that province.

^^^Blair is 100% correct...Quebec is like a foreign country when it comes to cars. Just because it is allowed there, doesn't mean you can register it here. I've posted already in a couple other threads about my experience, but basically, find a car you are allowed to import, get all your ducks in a row (paperwork, paperwork, and more paperwork), and then drive it back (or ship it, but where's the fun in that?)...pretty simple actually.

PM me if you have any specific questions.

If your looking for a MKV R32, ive done some research, and They are able to come to Canada.

There is a guy in Toronto that imported a new MKIV R32. He told me at the border he told them that it was for track use only. It worked and he just insured it as a Glof. The insurance company seams to be ok with it, or there just too stupied. But if anything happend crash wise, im sure there would be a problem.

But when your a boller like this guy who really cares

Re: Importing a car to Canada

pretty sure there will be no mkv r32 in alberta. unless it's track use only, and that would take some paper work to get it done.

just cause someone has money doesn't mean he can do what he wants. the border guys don't care, my buddy works there and i asked if any shady stuff goes on and he says no. why would a "baller" want a r32?? someone's talking out his ass. money does not talk in all cases.

the only chance a r32 is coming to alberta is through quebec, which doesn't sound like it can happen.

Unless you need the hatch space, importing an Audi TT would seem to me to be the better deal vs an R32. Similar features.
