  • Need help with camber plates

Im looking at some camber plated for my GTI. I have installed FK silver line coils last year, and just last week my car is pulling hard to the drivers right.

I brought it in to SCFC and had Davey work his magic, but it seam that my drivers left wheel is FOOKED. I at -1.46ish negative camber. The rest are fine.

I was looking at K-Mac camber plates, Has anyone heard of these guys, and are they any good.???

Im in a bit of trouble here cause my car is hard to drive its pulling so much. I need to get this fixed.

The only thing that makes me wonder is, Why did this start all of a sudden. When the coils were put on my car, my GTI ran straight as an arrow, no longer then 2 weeks this problem of a right pull started.

Any advise on this would be awsome.

Did you do the install yourself? Any chance you missed a spacer or something when putting on the one corner? As far as camber plates go, check out the MK4 suspension forum on Whoretex. They have a listing of all 10 or so models of camber plates that are available for the MK IV, and lots of other info on how to install, ease of use, etc.

I would be happier with more camber.. but thats just a race thing I have some camber plates, the Ground Control ones... but they are for non coils. I would give them to you really really cheap and you can get the coil spring hats from ground control. You probably have a bent spindle although you could even have bent struts, Bart had some really bent FK ones that would give him great camber!

Adjustment ideas in the absence of camber plates.. spindle to control arm has enough play when you undo the 3 bolts to get quite a bit of adjustment... subframe can be moved from side to side to equalise out any differences from left to right.

Not many people here have modified MK5's so you might find responses slow. I also bet the whoretex has lots of posts on this though.

I was about to say it's a MK5, but you caught it. There doesn't look like there is anything bent in there. I even had the coilover out examining it aswel as examining the spindle, ball joint and control arm and bushings. There is just no adjustment left to equalize the camber. The only thing I can suggest is to get camber plates. Then it doesn't matter how low or high you go, the camber can be setup.

It makes no sense to me how something can be fine one day, then be "off" the next, and nothing broken, but it just can't be adjusted any farther.

Obviously other people don't have this problem right?

Thanks, I like to explain things so that people can understand. I like to make the customers understand what their vehicles problems are and I do my best to work with them and get the problems solved.

Re: Need help with camber plates

Well just got back from a hour long drive. Let me tell you i dont need to go to the gym to work out my arms anymore, cause holding my F**KING stearing wheel will give me a better work out.

Its pulling so hard now its not safe to drive.

Its 5X worse now after my alignment at SCFC and its getting worse with every drive.

Could it be the COIL? could a coil get bent, even know its 1 yearold with 15 000km ish on them.?????

I m heading to Concept 1 tomorrow morning to ask them about it. I will let you know what happens.

im sure 70% of us all on here has or has had coilovers. Are you guys having the same problem.

I'd say you have a major problem and should get it solved BEFORE you throw correction parts at it. That's just me though. I would say you still have an alignment issue, either from something bent or something just not aligned properly.

I mean, if it was truly related to your coilovers (as far as being low and needing to correct for them) you would have noticed it as soon as you put them on, not a year later.

But your camber couldn't be equalized the first time you came in for an alignment when you got the coilovers put on.. so I don't think it's the car or alignment techniques. It's probably something to do with the coilovers.
