Whose got a KO4 1.8T

Im looking into upgradeing the turbo, and i just wanna know what kinda supprting mods im gonna need, and what kind of price im going to be looking at.

another thing, i want to keep my car fairly reliable, but ive heard that the ko4 is still prety safe.

any insight would be great.

when i was looking into a K04 i heard from a few people that it can be a bit of an unpredictable upgrade, not sure of the details though.

There seems to be a lot of mis-information about the K04. I think a lot of it is confusion between the different types of K04's available. The easiest upgrade for your Jetta is a K04-001. This is a bolt on turbo and requires minimal extra parts. Kinetic motorsports has a high-flow exhaust manifold that goes nicely with this turbo and isn't a whole lot of extra money. You wont get huge gains out of a K04-001, typically around 15whp and 20-30ft/lbs, but its enough to make the car quicker than it would ever be with a k03 and you will have a broader power band. I would probably do a front mount or upgraded side mount intercooler first though, as intake temps are already hot enough with the K03.

Mike nailed that one on the head.

It really depends which K04 turbo you are talking about. The K04-001 is a direct replacement where as the K04-020 is a little more complicated.
