I've gotten 2 CELs in the last few months, both times were "P0420 -Catalyst Below Efficiency Threshold (Bank 1)". In poking around on the vortex it seems that the majority of the time it is the catalytic converter that is shot, but it could also be an O2 sensor among other things. Are there any checks I can do myself prior to taking it to a dealer/mechanic to diagnose?
Also, does anyone know what the warranty period is on emissions equipment (from 2001)? The US appears to be 8 years/80000 miles, but a dealer here would not answer me directly over the phone.
Thanks!
