  • Best Rubber for your baby

No im not talking that kind of rubber.

Im wondering what the best ultra high performance summer tire is for VW.

Im looking for something very very grippy, quite, with a stiff side wall. Street use only, No track use.

THere are so many tires out there im not sure what is good. Every tire store i go into tells me something different.

If just street, any high perf summer tire will be fine. Best (but short life) would be something like Kumo MX or Falken 615s. But that's kind of overkill.

I have BFG KDW2s but you pay more for the cool (IMO) tread pattern. They are more than I need.

        Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
        Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

'Nuff said those two are the best, bar none, IMO.

Followed up by some other brands I would say

Pirelli, Bridgesone Potenzas, and those BFG's which were already mentioned.

Typically GRIP and QUIET are at opposite ends of most lines of tires. People who want performance don't care about noise. So you probably won't get both.

Ive got Michelin Pilot Sport's but I have never tried anything else so I really cant say how good they r cus I have no benchmark to compare them too.

i enjoy the Kumho Ecsta's on my car
but i drive a mk2 so it's apples to oranges

although i do prefer them to the Bridgestone Potenza that's been previously mentioned

I've seen on some VW's, if you get a cheap tire with a bit of wear, it will start to sound like a wheel bearing is shot.

I have had cost effective tires and good tires, It's a get what you pay for, I had the Eagle F1's on the wheels when I got them and replaced them with the same ones, they are quiet, sticky and have a nice ride to them.

I hear Falken tires are pretty good too. Also pretty cheap if your on a budget.

I've scoped out a set of Falken 452's once I get some new alloy's to toss 'em on.

I always hear that Kumho Ecsta's are the best bang for the buck.

                        But I love BFG KDW2's

I had both the Kumhos and the BFG's and preferred the BFG's

Kumhos are good but not as much performance in the dry for sure, and they would sometimes squeal.

Re: Best Rubber for your baby

There really is no one tire that is better than every other tire for every single person...
If there was, there would only be one tire on the market.

Everybody has a different opinion and to what is best, and it is just that... An opinion.

You have to figure out what makes a tire good for you based on what you expect from a tire. Is treadlife more important that hardcore cornering power? Is wet traction not as important to you as dry traction? Do you not care that a tire is rough and noisy or do you need it to be whisper quiet? Do you have a limited budget or can you spend as much money as it takes to get as good of a tire as you can get?

there are so many variables that it is impossible to state that one tire is better than another. Unfortunately most tire shops will recommend whatever they have on the shelf or whatever makes them the biggest dollar, but that isn't always what is best for you. Also, most people think that they need more tire than they really do because the simple fact is people think they are better drivers than they actually are, and in reality their own fears kick in long before their tire is actually past its limit, even though they believe they are at the limit. But because their cousins buddy who has a sister who is married to a guy that once plugged a tire tells them that they are an idiot for not spending the money on a Pirelli PZero Rosso, they believe him... lol.

if you walk into a tire shop and a guy tells you what is best without asking you a bunch of questions before making a recommendation, you can be pretty sure he has his own interests in mind. If he ask you questions, can explain his answers in a way you can understand clearly, and he is not trying to force something on you, then that might be the person to have a little bit of trust in helping you find what is best for you...
