  • camping trip breakdown :(

well, as per usual, car is sound all year, and breaks down on my vacation.... this one is the first one that actually stranded me though. So here I am in Vernon (same place i booked it on my last holiday...lol). Diagnosis: fractured the oil line to turbo.... On the upside, no codes were thrown, and I had the car off the road asap. I did see the oil light come on for about 1 second though. (when i wrecked my oil pan a few weeks back, i had the car off before the light came on). The line was not completely severed, so some oil was still going to turbo.. and at this point, I sure hope it was enough. Royal VW got it on a hoist and filled up the oil, fired it up, and found the leak. It wasn't too too bad they said, and when they revved it up, the turbo still spooled . Should have a new line here monday morning. In the mean time, i'll just camp here.. could be worse. Campground has wifi.. haha. (ya ya.. laptop at campground.. i know. just brought it in case i needed to scan my car.)
    Anyone else ever experience this???

Wow that is crappy. I bet you started it on it ride to demise when you hit your oil pan. If I remember from when I changed my turbo it is a hard line that goes around the side of the engine that goes into the turbo so I bet it got tweaked.
Drop me a line when you get back and we can install you a skid plate lol

hope its just a skid plate and not a skid plate / turbo install we end up doing...

I own lake front property on Okanagan lake just outside of Vernon. I will be there next week. LOL. If I knew you were going you could of camped there. FREE! Just for helping me with the VAG COM a year ago.

Funny my first VW was also bought at Royal. Are they still the only dealer in town?

Unfortunately, I understand this all too well. The TT didn't fair so well on my August long camping trip. Had to be towed 600km... and it's still in the shop. :(

Not exactly sure. All I know is that it was leaking fuel (pouring out of the tank) and that fuel got into the carbon canister and other lines which are not supposed to have fuel in them. The good thing is that Audi is taking this very seriously (or appear to be). I just spoke with them and I should get it back soon hopefully.

Edit: I should add that this was not caused by a rock or any other damage to the fuel tank. It appears to be a engineering design defect.

Holeee, thats a bad engineering defect. Fuel leaking anyware should be treated super seriously. That puts a shiver up my back.

Crazy! I just got back from camping in Vernon as well. It was the last stop on a couple week tour of the interior. Love it there so much we are going to buy some property in the general area as well and expand the business out to the okanagan area. I always hate coming home after being out there!

P.S. Hope Audi gets that beautifull car rollin soon Billip. Definately sounds like they got some issues to sort out.

I know how you feel Rob, I grew up in Vernon and Kelowna and now it is hard living without the lakes and nicer weather.

Well, all fixed up. Thx to Ben's towing and Royal VW in Vernon. Having a loaner on short notice was awesome. I guess make sure you check the brackets that hold the turbo oil supply line in place.. i had a broken one which likely caused enough vibration to fracture the line.
