Opinions on possible future purchase?

Hello everyone, I'm pretty new to the forums. I thought I'd get try to get an opinion or two on a first car, a 95 Golf. It's a 5 speed, two door, has only 146,000 K's on it, has a K+N Air Filter and a Magnaflow Exhaust and it comes with some fancy audio stuff, MTX Thunder 5500 sub. he calls it.

He's asking 4300 for it. Anything I should look out for or keep in mind while checking out this car or other 95 Golfs for that matter?

Rust will spread, and rust around the hatch rear window or tail lights seems to be common and hard to fix. Look out for rust.

Take it to a shop that knows VW's and get a comprehensive inspection. Find out maintenance history (timing belt etc.).
