  • 3rd & 4th Gear surge?

Well I was out cruising and testing the car. It feel like I have a little surge in my 3rd and 4th gear around 4000-5000 RPM, but I look at my boost gauge and I see maybe a fluctation of 1PSI which isnt that bad. Any suggestions to what could be the prob or is this normal? Could it be heatsoak?

my car had heatsoak today driving back from central AB.. 30+C and 2+hours of highway+AC gave me it..so i stopped off at a safeway and picked up some stuff and let the car cool down jumped back in and it was good to go again..

Interesting.... I was reading on some forums and they also said since I have a 2.5" Downpipe mated to my stock exhaust its giving me a greater amount of back pressure which is giving me hesitation around 5000rpms. When I put my catback on it should disappear.

I would love to install a FMIC but it would cost probablly $1500-2000 after installation. :donking:

install the FMIC yourself, it'll require alot of hours of trimming with most of today's kits though.

You can get a side-mount intercooler that is significantly larger and more efficient than the stock one.... or dual-intercoolers like the TT...

Ouch, what are they for the side mount units to replace the existing IC?

I think you can find a Forge SMIC for $500 US if you're patient. Install should be a DIY. Yeah its still a bit expensive - but if you're thinking about a new intercooler you had better already have all the other practical upgrades - chip, exhaust, intake and turbo inlet. After all those there really isnt any choice - get an intercooler or upgrade your turbo.

Although if you upgrade your turbo, you will need a new intercooler anyway.

Not more than an exhaust though, right? And in theory you might get similar gains.

SMIC is like 6-8HP.. exhaust 10-12?HP and APRs FMIC is a 14HP gain so i dunno.. its all good..
