I was wondering if anyone was running the GIAC with a downpipe. If so, what downpipe are you using. I was thinking of APR but want to make sure that when coupled with my chip I will not be looking at codes every week or so.
I am already unsure whether or not GIAC was my best option and I don't want to make things worse.

    Re: Downpipe

You can use any downpipe. They are all pretty much the same as far as im concerned. As for throwing CEL's, my GHL 2.5inch DP occasionally threw a CEL until I had Richard at Dubsport install a 02 sensor spacer. Ever since then, no more CEL's.

    Check out this link: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3297729

That's the 02 sensor that I have and I believe Richard has a few in stock. Their is also the option of making your own spacer using the VWvortex DIY, but the one im using is proven to work and very affordable....so why not?

Every 1.8T is different and they all react to mods in different ways...especially when it comes to aftermaret software.

Why are you unsure about whether GIAC was your best option? please elaborate.

      Re: Downpipe

It just seems that lately I have been seeing more faults come up and they usually deal with a pressure drop at the diverter valve. I am using a forge valve and they are not really known to go. I have just replaced that with a new one and had my latest fault cleared so hopefully that will be that.

        What car do you have????

I'm having the same problem faults come up and they usually deal with a pressure drop at the diverter valve or way under boost, with engine lights.

Im not chipped and its happening to me also.

Maybe you're running the wrong spring in the DV or you have a leak in your hose?

Other than your current issues with your software, have you had any other software related issues? Do you get alot of surging with GIAC? What are your overall thoughts on GIAC?

            Re: Downpipe

            2001 Wolfburg, 1.8T.

Same thing with me, always a pressure drop at the divertor valve. I am going to ask Richard at Dubsport about that spacer you were talking about DubyT.

Other than this diverter valve issue, (I will change the spring to see if it makes a difference) I am pretty happy with the power that GIAC puts out, more importantly the torque. It can be a nightmare on the rubber as the car just jumps off the line which is also fun if you are not paying attention as my shoes try to roll in the creases of the road. I am also really happy with the available power I have in any gear to pass, even abundant power while doing 120 in fifth without having to downshift.
I was told by someone that GIAC likes to run at the limits however which could cause problems later on but for now I do like it, and will love it once I resolve my CEL problem.

On my '00 golf 1.8t I had GIAC chip and GHL downpipe with no CEL's ever.

Hey Simon, what kind of performance did you get with GIAC plus downpipe? I need to know if I should spend the bucks to add the downpipe or if the gains aren't going to be that noticable as I already have the chip?

                  Re: Downpipe

I didnt do a dyno right before/after the exhaust stuff, but it supposedly is a decent HP increase to add a turbo back exhaust after you have a chip, as it lets it flow much more freely.
