YES PINS! don't be stupid man.. brent helped me install my hood originally.. and yes it is VERY scary drilling into that thing but it's worth it in the end to have the thing hold down.. trust me it weighs like what 2lbs lol..go get some sparco pins from tunerworks and you'll be smiling

For safety issues I think it is a moot point, put pins on. You can get some really nice pin sets so it is not like it is going to look worse. Like Ryan said it really isn't that hard to install them either.

Look online and get some subtle black ones if you don't want them to stand out.

It is seriously not safe without pins, not only is there a chance that the hood will fly up, but it could also crack, and then you'd be pissed off.

IMO if you don't want pins don't get a CF hood.

My latch has popped twice at high speed, pins kept it on. If you don't use pins you're just asking for it (and may get sued as well if the hood rips off). The stock hood has a LOT of weight, plus a shock to keep it down.

I think hood pins look like a$$, but like everyone else said, get them for safety purposes.

Re: hood pins or no hood pins

is the reason for hood pins just because the latch on the hood itself isnt very strong?

Re: hood pins or no hood pins

You can't just hold it with a little latch no matter what car it is, from a bentley to a benz yo. Wind gets under the hood pushing it up, and there is no weight pushing it back down. The latch only touches the hood in one spot and its held in place with a tiny spring. Carbon fiber is flexible and will start to warp and bend and flex. Even a killer latch is not going to hold enough, the wind is going to push up enough to bend the hood or break it if its not anchored in the corners. Its going to twist and flex and you won't see it until suddenly WHAM hood snaps back.

You think the hood pins were invented for style or something? Its not a fashion statement dude.

If your hood comes up like in the video - BEST case, you lose your hood, windshield, and you mess up your paint too. And oh, your insurance is probably not going to cover any of it. WORST case, the hood wrecks your car, and another car, and you get into accidents, and people get killed.

There was a guy on the vortex this happened to a couple years back. Mk4 with pinless cf hood. Destroyed his windshield, sunroof, roof, and caused an accident on the freeway.

I think you can pick up a set of good hoodpins for like $60.
