Hi All,
I just purchased a brand new City Golf about a month ago, and stumbled on this site and just had to post about my VW buying experience from Northland Volkswagen. It's a funny story now, although at the time it was one of the most frustrating experiences I've ever dealt with!
My wife and I had our old car totalled (fortunately no one was hurt) so we were in the market and needed something relatively quick. We went in on a Saturday (late April, early May) and spent about two hours looking at and test driving the City Golf. My wife and I loved it, as it compromised on a lot of the differences we've had in looking for a car. So, that day we decided to purchase. Since this was the first 'new' car either of us had owned, we wanted it to be exactly what we wanted... Tornado Red, Auto, A/C, Convenience Package, and Full Airbag package. We were in luck... our salesman said there was one available in Medicine Hat! So, he placed the order and told us we'd be driving it by the next weekend! Little did we know...
Flash Forward to Thursday that week, when I get a call from our salesman. Unfortunately the car hasn't come in yet, but he's still hoping it will at least arrive on Saturday. So, I call on Saturday, one week from when we bought)... still no car. My salesman says he'll call me first thing Monday morning and let me know what's going on. Monday morning... he doesn't call, so that afternoon I call only to find out he's left for the day. I'm a little bit peeved at this moment, as I want to know what's going on with my car. So, I ask for the sales manager, and he tells me the shipping company dropped the ball, and missed the pickup for our car. He tells me they've put a rush order on it, and it will be in and ready for us by Friday of that week.
So, Friday comes along and we get a call telling us to come pick up our car. We fill out all the paperwork, go through a pre-delivery orientation on our manual, and head out to our car. We go to get in... only to see a stick shift instead of our automatic. So my wife is in tears, I'm fuming, and through the glass window to the sales manger's office we can see him and our salesman trying to figure out who screwed this up. Apparently, Medicine Hat sent the wrong car.
So, Northland VW rented us a vehicle, threw in some monster mats, and put another 'rush' on the shipping of our new vehicle. It arrived the following Friday. After an extensive walkthrough, we went the next day to sign all the paperwork. Finally, three weeks to the day that we ordered the car (keep in mind the car was in MEDICINE HAT!!!) we finally got to drive it off the lot.
It was a frustrating experience, but we love our new car. I was ready to walk but my wife fell in love with it before we bought it so there wasn't much I could do. We had a great salesman, and aside from him not calling me that one Monday did everything in his power to make us comfortable. He even came in on his day off when we picked up the right car, which was nice.
Anyways, just thought I'd share and I look forward to spending many years here enjoying my new Golf!
