    I'm going to have a look at a 97 Jetta with a 2 litre 5 speed 115,000 km what are thing that I should watch for beside the obvious things i'm going to take it to my shop and inspect it .I am a H.D. mechanic but I would like a heads up for any other problems and such. Tia

      i just got a 98 jetta a few weeks ago. mostly minor stuff, but:
      -some rust spots taht needed touching up
      -clutch is a bit worn (high release on pedal)
      -Some exhaust noise cause mostly by heat shielding.
      -Starter makes a funny noise sometimes when you start the engine after it is warm. I think the its dot disengaging properly. Not enough to worry about... yet.

        Yeah my beater car for going to work lost most of its oil pressure, knocks real bad and is going to die soon so I am looking at something that is relaible -anything small I don't mind fixing-and good on gas
