  • Timing belt...

Im looking to have my timing belt changed sometime in the near future...what would be the best place to do it? Does anyone know how much George charges?

I will provide all parts so im just wondering how much the labour is gonna cost me!

Anyone have any experience with a shop around town?

    Btw...this is for the 1.8T

    Re: Timing belt...

I had my timing belt changed by George back in november. Did fantastic quick work. Cost was about 750 if I remember correctly, but he included all the parts. I think he mentioned it was about 5-6 hours of labour if I remember correctly.
When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

About how many km do they reccomend that you replace the timing belt on a 2003 1.8T? Should a guy also get the water pump done at the same time?

Just rolled over 100K - I'll be getting it done this season I think. The water pump is the problem and the reason for changing it so soon. It SHOULD be 140-160K, but a lot of pumps are crapping out early. Which controls the hydrolic tensioner for the belt.

Gotcha, I am about 87K km, so I guess I should paln for that in the next while. I am planning on driving the Jetta alot more on trips than the wife's Pacifica because the Pacifica is a pig on fuel.
