  • Rusted on rim

My winter rim has rusted on to my car and I have tried EVERYTHING to get it off, any ideas? Any shop that would be able to take it off for me?

    Did you try sledgehammer?

Did you try letting the car down on the jack and putting weight on it (with no bolts)?

Edit: I am not responsible if you injure yourself.

Loosen all the bolts and leave only 2 in there, they should be loose but not totally off(opposite sides of each other). Sit on your ass and kick the tire(left, right, left, right and so on) make sure that you got something supporting the car...wood, a good lift(not stock) also dont raise the car to the sky but just enough to maybe put 2 fingers under it or so.

Wow, hopefully that made some sense.

Im not responsible if anything happens to you. But use common sense and it should work.

Seriously I had this happen once, I just took out the bolts, and slowly let down my hydraulic jack. The weight of the car on the wheel was quite a good way to persuade it to come off. :P

I put some blocks under there first in case the wheel fell off, the car wouldn't come crashing down.

The sitting on your ass and kicking it method, or the hitting it with a hammer method also work.

You could try putting a long bar into one of the bolt holes and then prying it. I use the handle of my jack (it comes off).

Honestly a garage is not gonna use magic; if you take it somewhere, they are just gonna use more and more force until it comes off.

sounds like I am in for a 3rd night of beating the S#!t out of my winter rim. Where should I put the wood to stop the car from coming crashing down?

Yeah. A few times, the balls of my feet have been left pretty swollen from doing the "two foot shuffle" on the rim....

ahhh, kick the rim, not the tire.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

                        Re: Rusted on rim

When this happened to my e30, I left the car jacked up, took off all the bolts, layed on my garage floor and kicked the **** out of alternating sides of the tire with both feet. Took about 2 minutes and was a good release of anger.

I would leave two very loose bolts in for any of the above methods.

Indeed, heat will help it shift a little, then kick the hell out of it, before you put them on again clean up the mating surfaces!

                              Is it off yet?

You should try tying a rope around it, connecting it to another car, and driving away.
