Re: Trailer hitch
Thanks for that.....I looked and Uhaul has nice looking hitches made with round tubing instead of the industrial looking square stuff.....I want as little showing, and if it is I want it to look pretty......
Also, I did some research and the consensus is that the 1.8t GTI is rated for 1320lbs and 150lbs tongue weight.....sound about right to anyone?
Hitches were surprisingly cheap for the car, all under $200!2006 Colorado Xtreme | AEM CAI | Walker exhaust | smoked glass | -1" dropped rear | Avic D3 | 8000K HID's

Beware that towing over capacity can make you liable in almost any accident and your insurance may not cover you.Geoff

Re: Trailer hitch
I have a hitch on my tdi, got it done at Hitch shop on 42 Ave SE, right across from Autotemp. I use it to two a trailer with my DJ gear etc, about 900 lbs total. Works great, and looks good. It's a hidden hitch brand with the round tubing you mentioned. The only thing I would suggest is to make sure your brakes are working well, as any vehicle can get a trailer up to speed, it's getting it to stop when needed that's the trick...

Re: Trailer hitch
Sorry to bring up an old thread but I am looking to get a trailer for the car so I am in need of a hitch as well. How was your luck with it all? Looking to pull a couple mini bikes with it around 300lb's plus all the nasty camping gear ie. BBQ and all the other stuff that gets full of dirt like the girlfriend. JK of course
Where did you guys get your trailers from as well a helpfull hints about the wireing. I've seen some at Canadian tire for cheap expecially the do it your self one. Any info would be great. Oh it a 99.5 MK4 golf 2.0L standard.

Re: Trailer hitch
Got my hitch done, class 1 (2000 lbs, 200 tg) for 269 incl tax and install. No wiring though since I'm just getting a bike rack.
Looks excellent, really tight to the bumper, Hidden Hitch brand from Hitch Warehouse on Barlow by Sunridge. 1 hr install.Geoff

Re: Trailer hitch
I've got the same hitch on the Jetta as well, I did the install myself though. It wasn't really a big deal, plus I got to drill holes in my car!
My first time towing was last week bringing my new Karmann Ghia home, everything worked well except the trailer lights, after we started moving they decided to switch directions (left became right and so on).
