Horsepower gains

After chipping the 1.8T, what would you rank as the next best mods to improve performance?
I am looking for realistic answers that are somewhat affordable and will not require any crazy drivetrain mods. I have heard a few things such as downpipe, going KO4 and new manifold, and others.
I am interested in your opinions and if you could also include approx. cost of part plus install that would be great as well.

I would say, not the CAI, leave that stock.

First, decide how far you want to go. If you ever plan to go with a new turbo kit, then stop right now and just save for that. Otherwise you are wasting money now.

If you never plan on upgrading the turbo, then:

Chip
Downpipe
Exhaust

haha thats true kris.. i like the CAI sound on the 1.8t tho.. i guess it depends on what you like.. as the stock airbox is quite good.

Yeah, the only reason I put the CAI on mine was cuz the car was too quiet stock.

My dynos showed power differences that could be best described as 'rounding errors'.

If you are going to change the turbo you will have to have a downpipe custom made so don't upgrade that if you are unsure. You can adapt a cat-back to just about anything, so if you have grandiose plans then toss a 3 inch on it.

Although the gains from the exhaust won't be nearly as good with the stock downpipe in place.
