    Re: MK3 golf 2.slow project

I like a bit of stretch... but the gap between tire and rim looks ridiculous. LOVE the rims tho.... so hot.

      Re: MK3 golf 2.slow project

Why the stretch? I don’t know, because all the cool kids do it haha

You usually see the stretch on drifter cars and older dubs up until recently because the mk3 is slowly becoming the new mk2. Besides the look (which I like), I chose to go this route because I wanted to fit these wide wheels with the nice deep lip without rubbing troubles (my suspension is set up to the stiffest setting to help with that as well). So for me it is all about fitment and trying something not so common over here in Calgary with the looks, besides, a 205 tire is much cheaper to replace than wider tires....at first i was a bit worried too but it turned out well i think

Performance wise you are right…it is horrible, the car used to handle like it was on rails but now it is bad… it is good enough for me because I have the other set of wheels for the track and such.

Now safety wise is where it is in the dark…it is a 50/50 issue, some agree and some disagree. A lot of people on vortex have the stretch and I have yet to hear of incidents of the tires popping off just like that, even with the drifters, usually you would have to put them on a lot of stress and that would be hard to do on the street to get them to pop….so I figured ill give it a try and ill be sure to keep you updated of how it does. So far I love it because of different reactions I get from people everywhere…some love it, some hate it haha

Well not far from, im at the top of summerset backing onto McKevitt, theres a red jetta across the road from me but thats all ive seen.

Im with th 50% that arent buzzed by the stretch, cant get it to work in my head, and especially if they are that low grip. But i can totally understand it from a not rubbing idea. Car looks good though man.

          Re: MK3 golf 2.slow project

I wanted to run 205/40's on my 9's but since I had 8.5's up front I wanted the stretch to match front/rear. They don't make 512's in a 195/40 so I ended up with 215/40 on my 9's and 205/40 on my 8.5's!

          Here is my 215/40 on a 9"

          Looks killer man!!

                Re: MK3 golf 2.slow project

Ginch...that was my issue a too at first, i wanted to run staggered too and i had the order in for 9" rear and 7.5 front but a day later i changerd my mind after going over and over all the 332878278378 pictures i have on the comp and decided to just do it up 9" front and back, your strech looks pretty much the same as mine, maybe a bit less extreme but pretty much the same...looks killer man, great choice of rims too i was going to buy the same style too but i saw on one of your threads that you beat me to it lol :P...bastard

Andy...talk to me on msn and ill give u my adress and u can come over when you have time because im not going to drive it untill the chip comes in....might need a new tranny too because it looks like my syncros are gone, perfect oppurtunity to get than new eip stage 2 clutch in there haha

mk4jetta...yep that was me, i JUST put on the wheels that night and i went to watch some nice races.... too bad it was too full and peple only got 2-3 runs. i saw your jetta too i think, black wheels? very nice

ahha i cant go into 2nd if i go trough all of 1st which is shitty because i cant run it on the track untill that is fixed. i found a new tranny but someone ended up snatching it before me so the search continiues haha

here are some more pictures of the whole car with the wheels...

the car still needs to go lower but i need to roll my fenders first
