    Best Ultra-High Performane Tire?

    Looking at replacing my stock set of 4 Michelin Pilot Sports (225-40ZR-18) with one of the following:

    KUMHO Ecsta SPT KU31's (ie. $850)
    Falken FK452's (ie. $895)
    or Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's. (ie. $1,170)

    Basically, I'm just trying to save a little money from buying another set of Michelin's (ie. $1,735) without sacrificing too much performance/quality... if any. Based on my own research, all of the 3 tires above appear to get very good reviews. Personally, my girlfriend has a set of the FK452's on her Mazda3 and suffice to say, I was really impressed with them. On the other hand, I had Eagle F1's on my old '91 Mustang GT and boy oh boy... those were sweet tires.

    Anyhow, was just wondering what others have experienced... or if you've recently gotten new rubber all around, what did you go with and why?

    I have General Exclaim UHP tires on my summer rims.
    They hold the pavement well and they have a really clean look.
    If your looking for some Ultra high performance tires (ie. Racing) then I think you should look elsewhere though

        Of the 3 you listed I would bet the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 is the best performer by a lot.

          I new I saw that name somewhere!
          My dad has some Eagle 1's on his sunfire.
          They perfrom really good actually. Lots of grip for turning and even in snow

            I have BF KDW2s and they're excellent. But I paid a bit extra cause I like how they look. The Falken 615 is regarded by many as the current ruler for best autoX tire, followed by the Kumho MX.

              Thats right... for street tires anyway. The ruler for R comps in autox is also arguably Kumho 710s

                My Kumho street tires were predictable; when they did let go it was easy to drift or bring the car back in line. But I'd say they didn't grip as well as the BFG's, and they squealed.

                  I had Kor's BFG's after he did, and I agree they were a good tire. The only thing I didn't like about them was they were loud, compared to Pilot Sports anyways.

                    That also might be the width, but I agree they were a little loud.

                      Hmmm... All good comments.

                      Basically, what I'm looking for is a good UHP tire that I can drive hard into the exit ramps in Calgary while not scrubbing off to much speed on the weekends however during the week, the GTi basically becomes a "daily driver" where 'looks', road noise and comfort become more of a priority.

                      That said, I think I'm down to these 3 now:
                      Falken 452's - Appear to have better 'wet' traction and slightly more comfort.
                      Falken 615's - Look great and handle great, not so good in the wet.
                      Eagle F1's - Kind of a mix of all the above however, for an increased price.

                      Comments?

                      P.S. Has anyone checked out Fierce tires? Apparently, now owned by Goodyear.

                        615s are overkill if you're not going to actually race. I had the ultra all season Falken 512s (wouldn't advise keeping them on year round!) and they would hold all day and last forever on street crap. Keep it cheap IMO.

                            And I had them after Billip, and yeah, they were a bit noisy. Totally loved them though - lots of grip and they look deadly.

                            Sadly, a botched patch caused the front right tire to shred itself from the inside out and it was more cost effective to replace all 4 tires with Yokohama AVS's than to get one replacement BF.

                            The Yoko's have been discontinued (hence the dirty cheap price - $700-ish installed for 235/35/19) but if you can find a set, they're a great tire. They are really good in the wet, have great grip (although not as good as the BF's) and they look cool.
