  • What category would you call a CV boot?

Under what vehicle system would you call a CV boot?

    Front Axle?
    Steering?
    Suspension?

    Just wondering...

Would you say a completely torn apart CV boot is normal wear and tear?

    front axle i'd say.

And depends on mileage and how long it's been ripped as to whether it would be normal wear and tear. It does happen but it the car is quite new it's a little strange.

88,900km. The boots were last inspected at 87,437 and passed a-ok (along with everything else). It's a 2003 CPO'd Passat.

I wouldn't call that normal wear and tear, my GTI has 114k on it and the boots are perfecto.
I'd like to make a statment!

vw's had a problem with them tearing early, so sand and crap got inside and there go your cv's... maybe they have a revised version or something now.

How about CV joints and lower control arms and bushings?

did a sway bar link break and tear it apart? you say it's completely torn apart but was good 1500 kms ago?

I'm not sure about the sway bar link. It's completely torn in two and was good 1500km ago (March 8). The other boot is also cracked.

they were probably cracked but not split apart during your inspection. sounds like the crack decided to split open. i'd think that's something that should have been noted.

I would agree with you. I'm in warranty discussions now on this stuff.
