  • I'll take a GTi Carerra please

    http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publi...cle_2002.shtml

Thoughts anyone... Positive or Negative with regards to the future of VW... should the bid succeed?

Perhaps a GTi with ceramic brakes? Then again... maybe not.

Well I think the whole thing is slightly mis-leading as in Germany it is law when any company intends to own more than 30% that they must make this kind of takeover bid. Therefore Porsche is not going to have total control (yet at least) they are just wanting to increase their share as I think they already have about 29.7%.

I think the biggest changes, if control is established, will be more to the performance cars that compete with Porsche, so things like Lambo and Bugatti would be the ones that could suffer.

As Blair pointed out, they actually timed this so that they could make the minimum bid possible, basically there is no way it will be accepted. So Porsche obviously does not want to acquire VW outright, but only to increase their stake.

Shared technology would be an interesting avenue between the two companies. As you know, Porsche does not offer a DSG type gearbox yet (still selling Tiptronic) and their 3.4/3.6/3.8L flat 6 engine line is kind of getting dated. It would be great to see Audi's engine and transmission technology come to Porsche.

That has nothing to do with it

Porsche has the money, they offered 20 billion euros for the remaining 70% of VW. This is essentially not a great offer but still fair. They got the money through loans.

The Volkswagen act prevents anyone from exercising more than a 20% ownership vote in VW right now (I think) but that act might be struck down in German court/government at some point.

If 20% of shareholders take Porsche up on their offer (IMO not likely) then Porsche will own a controlling stake in the company and should the Volkswagen act fail, then Porsche basically can do anything they want with VW.
