  • 1.8 Recall

I just took my car into SCFC for my service and asked about the "shudder" that happens when sitting at a light. They informed me that it may be to do with a second VW ignition coil recall. - WG recall I think he mentioned, my car vin came up as a hit against the recall so they are going to check the coils they put in my car in January and see if they are any good.

If they are replaced and if they can shed any light on this new recall I'll post what i find out.

I'm coming up on 8k as well. I'll have to ask about the same issue.

lsc2g, have you decided on which chip you are going with?

I guess mine got lost in the mail.

Update: Yip - 2 of my replaced 4 coils were faulty, so in owning my brand spanking new '02 1.8T since Aug 31/02 (only 16898km) I have now had a total of 3 ignition coil replacements...!

Best everyone annoy the crap out of VW and call in their vins.

You'd think they wold have had the problems fixed by now.

No kidding. I can't believe this is still an issue. Does anyone know what month in 2002 VW switched over to the J version?

I got mine in the mail yesterday. Should I try Northland service?

Brought the car in today 9am at Northland VW.

Had to get my IC's replaced.. and
I had to remove my deck last night ,, so I told them
do I have to do this everytime.. they said, "no, all you have to do is get the K-wire cut. So because the wire from the dash was just hanging there,, they did it for me quick,, after spending 10mins looking up which wire to cut,, "lol".

all said and done,, i was out by 10:20am or so.

Not bad. I installed my deck again.. and now I dont' have to remove it.. .
Now when I go to VW ,, they know that my k-wire is cut..
They put a note on my service record that the car is safe to scan.
                        WHich I thought was good.

So with the IC's a few months back,, (Peter remember this) my MIL light turned on.. after a few days it went away. Just before I was suppose to bring it in to VW ..
So I didn't bother bringing the car in,,

I drove away today ,, and for most of the day I swear the car felt like it was pulling harder.. don't know why.. but it had more pep, like not a lot.. but slightly notciable ?

Dealer said that when the MIL light turned on the IC's or one or ? was miss firing or something.
I wonder if that was the cause of some loss in power?

So the service today was great,, they didn't charge me to cut the k-wire.. which i thought they were.

ALL is good now,, except for the bulb situation. lol
