    Re: Waterpump gone !

Usually people change the water pump and timing belt at the same time. I did mine at 118K km. I would suggest doing them both at the same time.

Maybe call the other dealerships and tell them that its an emergency, they might be able to put you in sooner!

Yeah may as well get it done while they're in there...removing the water pump is the costly part of getting a timing belt done from what i was told

I agree, you definitely want to get the timing belt done now while they're in there replacing the waterpump and make sure you get the metal impeller.

This happened to me in October and I was almost due for the timing belt as well. How do you know if you got a water pump with a metal impeller? I would hope the new ones would have the metal one.

I would think all replacement ones are now metal and not plastic like the stock ones were. I had mine done a few years back now so I remember having to specify.

I ordered mine form par auto the belt was 10 bucks and the impeller was some where around 200 + or - 30 bucks. Took it in to a regular mechanic shop and they charged 3 hours labor. Problem with that is if you have the wrong parts your paying them to sit there and wait for you to get them the right stuff. I think I still saved a couple hundred bucks doing it that way.

                  Re: Waterpump gone !

$1000, wow, I know a 2.0 is a lot less then that. I don't know the difference in how the timing belt is done though between the two. I just looked up the cost for the water pump's, the metal one is $3 more then the plastic one retail, so insist on that. The rest of the parts for the 1.8t are not cheap either, but from a rough estimate they should be $300. Belt, tensioner, roller, both seals, and of course the pump. So add labour on top of that, and it should be where you are at for costs. Check out the local sponsored guy on the forums, he is good and has many good reviews. Especially with timing belts, make sure the guy knows what they are doing, or else the jobs gets a lot bigger, fast!
