  • Keys?

Hey guys, when I bought my gti last spring it only came with one switchblade key and the valet key. I didnt really think this was any problem until I realised that the valet key is not programmed correctly and will not start my car. SCFC wants 100 bucks to program it, anyone know if there is any where to do it cheaper?

    Thanks

    Re: Keys?

i'm sure someone will give you the right answer, but i got 2 switch blades and a valet key. i would be pissed if my valet key didn't work, tell them they can fix it themselves if it's not programmed right.

      Re: Keys?

you can program the keys yourself LOL, and i *THINK* without a vag-com...

it said somewhere in the manual, if one of your keys stops working, there is a procedure to activate it again. something like you put one in the door, another in the ignition, flip spin bang bang and tada.

      good luck eheh

Depends If The Car Has An Imobilizer, If It Does, You're Gonna Have To Come And See Me At Scfc's. No Choice, The Door Thing Is Only For The Remotes, Not The Chip In The Key Itself.

Yeah, the recoding via the door is only for the lock unlock etc buttons on the remote. if the key wont start the engine then you need the imobilser programming at a dealership.

                  Re: Keys?

I have an appointment on Monday at SCFC to cut/program a replacement switchblade after I lost one over the winter. Parts were sourced through e-bay and I'll let everyone know how it goes after the work is done.

Interestingly, NL said it was impossible when I called them "way back when" and this will be my first trip to SCFC, so I'm looking for a positive result...

If you had the SKC (which is hard to get but can be done) you would be able to program your own keys. There is a sketchy chinese company that sells cables that will read SKC's and do diagnostics but I haven't heard much about them.

How much did the parts cost on ebay? Because I might as well buy a new swtichblade key on ebay and pay to reprogram that. They say they dont actually charge anything for the cutting so maybe thats a better option.

Fob was about $50 shipped and the key blank was about $20 shipped.

Is that for one key? Cuz you can buy a whole car for that price.
Guess I can't loose my last remote key.
