I'd get a flat red paint job, a quick spray should be cheapish, maybe a bit darker color too. Do a pinup girl decal or something on the rear doors. Black steelies with polished edges.

I like everything about your plan except for the angel eyes. Im not a big fan of angels in the first place, but overall they are kinda "bling". I really think they would take away from the look your going for, as to me they almost feel like the complete opposite of "hood/rat" style.

that would be dope, is it cool to say dope still?

If I ever do a project car i'm gonna hand paint it with flat black spray cans.

            Hey man.
i know concept has some white wall inserts for 15inch wheels.
as long as you dont run a stretched tire then the insert looks pretty sweet man. none on the site i dont think but they are in the air-cooled section near the narrowed beams. worth checking it out.

This is definitely the paint/finish you should aim for.

I agree angel eyes are not really hoodride/rat style... I'd rather do something like yellow bulbs like you used to need in France.

Re: looking for ideas for my ride.

Thanks for all the ideas! Everyone here is always helpful. I think I'm going to go with this look

but with my original color. I'm going to hand sand the car's clearcoat off to give it the look I'm looking for flat red (thanks kris!) It needs a little bondo on the rockers too and a rusted hood/trunk combo I think that will add to the look. I may go with smoked ecodes instead of angel eyes like what's on the car in the picture. I like the idea of whitewalls still with flat black steelies. I may just get the inserts for since I cant find the tires I'm looking for. (thanks videodave!) Kinda like this pic below but with flat black rims. The pinup girl idea is awesome too. i just need to find someone to do it. Any takers???

I can't wait to start this project! I need a brokestatus plate too.
Does anyone know where I can find a fmic piping kit for mk3 2.0l? or do I need to do custom work?

If I had the money I'd buy dayles car and scrap this project.

You can get that rust look with some special paint and then clear it so your hood is not really rusting but looks that way. I think it would give it a more consistent look over time.

You should buy Deaners widened steelies if you really want to make this thing sick. Please don't get angel eyes and make sure this thing is crazy low.

Rat Style is a tough look to pull off. If one thing is off, it ruins the entire car.

Here's some pics after the inserts. I was rubbing like mad before with my Blizzacks now I have the same size tire but they are Michelin MXV4's. No rubbage! What else should I do? I was thinking of texturing the top of the bumpers to match the rub strips. Input?

                              Looks good Dave; real good.

Your idea for texturing is a good one.
