New pads, brake fluid and stainless lines will make more performance difference than a big brake kit, thats just for looks.

I agree 100% with Kris. The brakes on the 20AE are pretty damn good all things considered. I remember recently reading an article on brake upgrades that stated that stopping times for big brake kits were either marginally different or no different at all. The thing that big brakes buys you is less brake fade when using the brakes often (like when racing). So if you're not really doing a lot of auto cross, then stock brakes are probably good enough... and changing pads/lines/fluid will make them seem very tight again.

I agree with this completely....
Honestly, if you have bigger brakes and want better stopping distances....get bigger tires too. Max grip occurs at 20% faster or slower then vehicle speed, so theoretically if you have a larger surface patch on the road then you will have more grip right?
You really have to think of the application....how many people who have done all these mods to their car truely need to have all the mods for driving to and from work?
If its your daily driver, non race-car....I think it really comes down to look rather then function. Asthetics are very important to a lot of people, I'll agree with this too, I enjoy having my car clean. I know its a rusty piece of **** but I like it better when it's clean anyway.

You can do it for looks if you want, just won't stop any better unless you get better pads, fluid and lines... you probably won't notice the improved resistance to fading of the bigger rotors.

IMO your front rotor size looks fine anyway. The three kits I mentioned are actually smaller, forgot you have 20th ae. If you want to go to 13" you're looking at 1600-2200USD

Don't forget the tires......in order to use all the braking power of even a stock setup you need some decent grip to the road. One of the real benefits of bigger brakes is that they can deliver repeated hard stops without fading. Most "racing" compound brake pads are terrible for street use as they don't provide much breaking until they are warmed up....fine for a race track but not so good for the street.
