Actually Mitch, I found the old pricing guide for the 97 golfs and scanned it. I need to down load it to my Photobucket but the sonic wall here at work won't allow me to access photobucket. SO, it is infact the 97 K2 that has the 1.8L in it. Good engine but its a dog!!!

The later K2's (1998) had the 2.0L in them but not the earlier ones!

i looked it up 95 was the last year in the USA.for the 1.8 motor.
emmisions and obd2 killed that production.

maybe in US it's a 2.0 in 97? NLVW says pretty sure 1.8. I kinda wanted a 2.0. :(

As someone who has had a 1.8L mk3 I wouldn't do it unless you REALLY don't care about performance. I got frustrated sometimes with mine. It's strong and sturdy though so should be reliable.

If it's a 2.0 then nevermind.
