Good Northland VW experience today.

I checked my oil this morning and noticed it was low before 8k so I went over to northland to see if I should just change it now or add a bit. They had me drive into service and they added some oil for me and topped up my washer fluid for free:thumbsup: I know it only costed like 50cents for it all but still it was nice service and they were cool with me about my car. The tech noticed my CAI and said to be careful of puddles (hydrolock) I said yea i'm paranoid of deep ones. He said a GLI came in with one that was hydrolocked.. (maybe mike (mr. burns) car so i emailed him to find out)

ps.. funny note of things.. they had in the service dept. a sheet of 'sounds' and how to explain them.. everything from creaks, to sqeaks,etc.. and what it might be caused by.. kinda funny and shitty at the same time on that one:whipped:

Dumb question, but what exactly causes hydrolock, and how bad is it?

hyrdrolock is when your intake ends up sucking water into your engine instead of air.. it basically seizes up the motor.. but in reality for it to do this on our cars the puddle has to be like 1' deep and the entire filter must be submerged in water..

As for how bad? You buy a new engine. Water does not compress at all, so everything else has to give if it gets in the cylinders. Think broken rods, cracked head, etc. I'm putting my intake at the bottom vent, but going to be very careful to make sure it can't suck up water.
