really enjoying mine, just needs to be faster
only thing wrong with mine was the wiper tanny broke, thats really it, otehr than that its a good solid car, and the 1.8t is a great engine, really easy to get lots of power out of!

i owned an '02 GTI and I freakin loved it. I only owned it for about 8 months though so maybe not long enough to have an opinion on it's mechanical quality. but if you ask me most vee-dubs are going to be pretty good mechanically.

Pros: Tons of mods, easy to mod, fun to drive.
Cons: Reliability, reliability, reliability, reliability. Where to start: window regulator clip broke, ignition coils fail pretty frequently leaving your car pretty much undriveable (changes 3 times already), radio died once, water pump impeller blade broke again leaving the car undriveable, brake light switch broke which is a major safety concenr, door weatherstripping always squeaks, and driver side door switch faulty. And servicing from the dealer is expensive, and any repairs outside of warranty is also expensive.

As much as I love my car, personally I would never buy a VW ever again. In comparison, the wife has a 2002 Corolla and not 1 problem ever. All that is required for servicing is a $27 oil change and a $90 major service every 40000km.

That's funny (or maybe it's sad) - I have had pretty much the exact same issues with my car.

                  - Window regulator
                  - Water pump impeller blade broke again
                  - Brake light switch broke
                  - Driver side door switch faulty.

ya buy a honda, you won't has those problems with it cause it doesn't have any of those things. slam the door on a honda for one thats a sign of it not having weather stripping ahah

Buy a honda or toyota is reliability is the #1 concern.

Hey me, too! The last time I changed it I wore latex gloves, so we'll see if I can get this bulb to last longer than 6 months! It's become so common I keep a spare in the glove box.
