Re: looking into a mk4 gti
i owned an '02 GTI and I freakin loved it. I only owned it for about 8 months though so maybe not long enough to have an opinion on it's mechanical quality. but if you ask me most vee-dubs are going to be pretty good mechanically.

Re: looking into a mk4 gti
Pros: Tons of mods, easy to mod, fun to drive.
Cons: Reliability, reliability, reliability, reliability. Where to start: window regulator clip broke, ignition coils fail pretty frequently leaving your car pretty much undriveable (changes 3 times already), radio died once, water pump impeller blade broke again leaving the car undriveable, brake light switch broke which is a major safety concenr, door weatherstripping always squeaks, and driver side door switch faulty. And servicing from the dealer is expensive, and any repairs outside of warranty is also expensive.
As much as I love my car, personally I would never buy a VW ever again. In comparison, the wife has a 2002 Corolla and not 1 problem ever. All that is required for servicing is a $27 oil change and a $90 major service every 40000km.Eric

Hey me, too! The last time I changed it I wore latex gloves, so we'll see if I can get this bulb to last longer than 6 months! It's become so common I keep a spare in the glove box.Brandon
