  • Looking at a drop soon

I would like to drop my mk4 golf about 1.5 '' this spring. I am doing it mostly to get rid of the wheel gap and aimprove on the handling. I want to keep the ride as close to stock as possible.

My question is: What would be the best brand, setup so on....for me.

    I have 18/8.5 wheels with 225/40R18 tires.

I am mostly looking for personal experiences with your setup more than by the book stats.

    Thanks

Well, dropping your car isn't going to improve handling as front suspension arms will be past parallel. It will look cooler though

At 1.5" drop it's going to be rougher than stock, but if you want to keep things on the softer side you can try the Eibach sport kit. I have the F&K kit and it's a little harsher than I'd like on square edged bumps and uneven pavement. Once these shocks start to go I'll swap them out for something with a little better damping, as the drop is exactly what I was looking for, although I might things a tiny bit higher in the front.

Re: Looking at a drop soon

i was on a tight budget, and my suspension was in need of replacement anyways. I just found some lightly used suspension (<5000km) from a Jetta GLI off of vortex. It gave me a 1" drop and much better handling (not nearly as good as what some aftermarket will get ya). But in the end, the whole project cost about 250$, and I was happy. You are probably looking for more, but its an option .

My car is dropped 55/40 using the FK kit and I personally like it. It is a little bit rough but I could notice the difference in handling as soon as it was dropped. I'm running 16" BBS RXII's right now but will be getting 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 rims for the summer and don't anticipate any problems. Wheel gap is all but gone an dit looks nice.
        Got 5?

From my experence, Eibach has the best ride quality, I have the Pro-Kit springs and it's quite pleasent compared to what's out there. Also look at your tire choice, I know Kumho tires have a super stiff sidewall and don't offer much comfort.

              My suggestion:

If you don't want to go as low as coils...

Buy whatever springs set the height you want...

Then buy either Koni's or Bilsteins.

              Instant excellent suspension.

I can sell you the springs from my 20th once my new suspension comes. Should give you the drop you're looking for.

FK is the european version of APC (minus their coils). What does this mean? FK blows more than Jenna Jameson.

If you want a mild drop with good ride quality, I would suggest H&R sport springs with Billstein sport shocks.

including their coils you mean ?

The Bilstein/H&R combo is a great riding setup for sure though

I've heard good things about FK coils......and nightmares about their springs.

I'm riding on FK coils year-round, and I'm impressed with it.

Gives me a great drop come summer time, and overall it's good for the price.

Although the ride is rough...I've driven in cars with coils, but my Fk setup just seems to be that much more.

well in my experience FK coils are crap too ( i am sure their higher end coils with the damping adjustablity are better) mind you the only experience I have with them is in the passenger seat and have never really driven set, but compaired to H&R's and stuff they certainly ride like ****.

In conclusion, most FK stuff is crap
