Horn Mod

Just a play by play.

So I picked up the horn, it looks like our stock real horn, and not the little speaker sorta thing we have in there.

First off, I had to get at my old horn, so remove the wipers and lift up the weather strip. Thats a pain.

Claw back there and remove a little metal clip, that I swear was put there only to piss people off. Then unplug.

The clip for the VW is a huge female connector, so I'll have to make a male connector to fit. Tommorow I'm gonna go buy a male connector for the porsche horn, because porsche has the sense to sell these separate. So then I'll solder them together and make an adaptor. Then I think rather than trying to mount the horn in the existing spot I'll make up a bracket and mount it inside the engine bay along the wall. Because my god is it a pain in the ass to get under that stripping.

I second that... it sounds like a pain in the ass to do.

I said that I wanted to get rid of that duck horn but this mod is starting to sound very intense.

No this isn't the regular horn, the other ones look easier to do, this is the horn that sounds when you lock the car, no more goos fart.

So I go back to South Centre Fine Cars in search of the clip that is on the end of the porsche harness, its gonna be pricey, since I am already making the one that fits into the VW harness, I can make another, this might be a while folks.

Yeah, I sort of got this together, now to find an easy place to mount it, that piece of plastic, that would be hard to remove and replace so I was thinking about putting it inside the engine bay. So could I get some pics of engine bays, both 1.8T and VR6 to see if there is any good place to put it?

If you are taking them, please focus on the top area (closest to the windshield) and to the drivers side, from about the passenger side windshield wiper to the side of the car, and any major holes (about the size of a fist) that has something that could be possibly drilled into. I don't need a pic of a 2.0 because I already have one of those =)

I'm looking for a better horn right now. The porsche horn isn't as good as I thought, our cars don't send a very long jolt of power so you don't really get a good beep.

I think he's trying to mod the way the car sounds when you use the remote locks. I personally would like to change that sound as well. It sounds like a duck.

sure i guess.. i could care less if the horn played la kooka rocha or something stupid like that.. its just a beep to let you know your alarm is activated
