  • Rabbit Wagon

Spy photographers have spotted the new Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit wagon in testing. It's not known if or when this wagon version of the Rabbit will reach the States, but Europeans are already excited about what they call the Golf Estate – also referred to as the Golf Variant.

Volkswagen was attempting to get away from the “conventional” station wagon styling by hinting about a Golf Plus — sort of a small European MPV, but consumers were demanding a "real" station wagon — and now we have proof that it’s much more than just wishful thinking.

We'll officially see this Golf (Rabbit) wagon when it makes its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year. Although powerplants won’t be of any surprise, the interior is said to offer greater flexibility than ever before with a foldable/removable rear bench seat, many small-item compartments and even tie-down points – typical features in much larger station wagons.

Not a wagon fan at all, but I think that looks really good.

That's seems way too big to me to be a golf variant. Maybe a Jetta wagon though?

you guys and all your wagon hate, wagons RULE!!

I like it, if it's 2.0T and DSG I could see having one in the future.

Makes me glad I held off on the 2006 Jetta sedan purchase.

Hope it makes it to Canada.

This is only helping my dislike. They should have made it smaller!

Im confused though. If jettas and golfs are on the same platform and both have the same front end, what makes this a golf and not a jetta?

Probably just that in Europe the "Wagon" was always a "Golf Variant" which had the golf front end. I think the Jetta fronted wagon is unique to North America. They are probably just continuing that trend. I would not be surprised if it comes here that it would be marketed as a "Jetta Wagon"

Have you ever seen Golf Variant? Not an inch smaller than jetta wagon, same car different front end.

For some reason I was thinking the Golf Variant was just a slightly larger golf, which never made sense to me.

I'm just going to stop smoking crack, and keep quiet for a while. :o

wouldnt smaller completly defeat the purpose of it being a varient in the firstplace ?

                            i love wagons
