  • ABD Turbo Intake Tube

    Hey,

I have been driving my car pretty hard lately just seeing what she tops out at and how fast she can get to 100, 160, 200 etc. And I was thinking that I need a mod that can make my turbo spool up faster and I found this one. I'm looking for some input about it, like bigger gains? Sounds? The difficulty of the install? Is it worth it? And possible problems I'll get at the dealership?

Any recommendations/ sugguestions would be much apprieciated.

the ABD and neuspeed inlet pipes are both pretty old technology, the newest things these days is the Samco 5 piece hose kit.

it basically replaces all the hoses from the intake to the turbo. its pretty sweet. maybe look into that.

There has been some debate about this (Turbo Inlet Pipes) in the past on our forum, check the search. Particularly in one of Peter's threads about Pulleys I think.

      A couple points:

One, our cars have speed-limiters. At least mine does. When you hit it, you may have quite a few RPM's left in 5th gear, but you won't go any faster. Even if you're going down-hill. The ECU retards your engine to keep you below the speed limit. Not sure how top speed relates to turbo-spool up.

Two, I don't think that adding a TIP will make your turbo spool up any faster. Lots of claims are made about mods, you need to be pessimistic when evaluating them.

Three, I am PRO turbo-inlet pipe, I think that this is a very good upgrade to do. I think its most appropriate after you're chipped AND have an exhaust. Basically this mod should let your turbo do less work to get you the same amount of boost as before - you're preserving the life of your turbo. You might see some small gains but they will be bigger if you have other mods too.

Four, you will probably get a lounder turbo-sound from a TIP. This is a good thing

Fifth, I would have this installed at Concept 1. Its probably pretty hard to do.

Sixth and lastly, I am sure that no matter what, this is an excuse for the dealership to void your engine or turbo related warranty claims, so be willing to do that. Other warranty stuff will still be fine, as long as it doesnt remotely relate to the turbocharger.

As I've said before, I have it, didn't notice too much with it, and it's pretty expensive for what it is. Install isn't too bad. I wouldn't recommend it.

Simon's suggestion sounds pretty good, may look into that myself!

I agree with Simon too, if you're going to do this take the Samco route.

yip thats the one. can get it in different colours too, so you can have a whole engine motif thing going.

too bad not in chrome though, everything else in my engine so far is chrome :(
