  • Runs rich on start up

    Hey all,

Noticed a while back but forgot to mention it, do all IV GTIs run very rich on start up. Noticed mine was leaving a big black mark in the snow when it was fired up. Soon as the engine gets a little warm it clears up and is perfectly clean when revving etc. Figured its just a rich misture to help starting but thought id ask.

    Just curious.

    Cheers
    Eric..

Do you have any mods? I don't think it should run richer on startup but I could be wrong.

well im not sure if its been rechipped or not, it suprised me how rich it was , that led me to think it may have been chipped

Ive only had the car a few weeks and its been in my garage in need of a clutch so i havent even driven it really.

a good chip shouldn't cause it to run rich at start up... i don't think.

All cars run rich when they're cold. Black on the snow, normal. ECT sends message (resistance value) to ecm and ecm provides outputs to injectors etc. It's all good

ect = engine coolant temp sensor
ecm = engine contol module... or electronic countermeasure

Thanks for that, I guess its just more noticeable on this as the exhaust points down rather than straight from the back so i saw it in the snow.
