  • So pissed off

so I had a '02 GTI 1.8T, and I completely totaled it. The other driver was deemed to be 100% at fault, therefore my deductible was waived and normally I would have thought that means I'm good to go.
However, they offered me $16,500 for the car and I owe a couple few more than that on my loan for the car. So it looks like I'm out about 3 Gs.

all because of someone else's f*ck up on the road.

You can argue with the insurance company on the value, go on the trader and find comparable vehicles to you selling at a higher price. I had this happed to long time back, and you just have to prove to them the replacement value is higher.

          Re: So pissed off

yeah they are definitely screwing me.
I can't just give them postings on the internet, they said my only other option is to pay for my own appraiser to appraise the value of the vehicle and if it's more than the 17 Gs they offered, then they will go halfers on however much more my appraiser says it's worth.
so i might be able to get another 8 or 9 hundred bucks out of it, but how much does an appraiser cost?
i'm going to talk to the manager on monday and try to argue more. i also put 600 dollar brand new tires on that car too, and some tint and few other small things, but i obviously wont see any of the money from those things.

the kms were actually about 73 or 74000.

the biggest burn out of all of this is now I wont be able to afford another GTI, so i'm probably going to end up buying a VW thats 4 years older, or maybe even *shrug* an older toyota or something.

i am pretty sure if you had mods and it wasn't your fault that other insurance company has to cover them. so make a list of stuff you put in your car, get receipts i guess, and all that has to be added onto the value...

well an after accedent apraiser is like 400 bucks here in red deer
however yourinsurane co has an apraiser they used to determin acv (acutual cahs value ) Now once his value goes into the company theybase the acv on his report . you will have adjuster assighned to your case they determine the amount to be paid out to you the client . now your company will have a ajuster that is dealing with the opposing company so you need to get your company to fight harder for your cause . dont let this go its your right as a consumer to get treated fairly . remember its there job to screw you over if they can . and if you can get proof of what the caris currently selling for arround your area i cannot see why that wouldnt help your argument

but this is also why you need to get a apraisel done for your car . and then the insurance company can charge even more a month but your ar will be insured for apraised value .
                    i had ths done \

Insurance "write off" value is typically in the ball park of black book value, so you are actually doing pretty well.

Black book value on an 02 GTI loaded is at a maximum of $12260.

Totally sucks, hope it works out for you.

Welcome to the wonderful world of car insurance. When I had my accident I told them to right off the car, well they didn't listen and $14k in repairs later they regretted it.

You should be able to try to argue and just say look, I can't buy another GTI with that much money with 70K on it, and I am going to make sure a lot of your customers know to go somewhere else, etc.

Amusingly when I totalled my Cavalier it was worth maybe 4g and they gave me 9g hahahaha I was laughing.

It's actually the blue book that they use.
they also source the newspapers and car lots and then make a determination on the price.
add on's like suspension and rims, generally de-value the car.
If the vehicle was dealer serviced that helps considerably because it shows
                            you maintained the vehicle.
produce as many receipts as you can and never accept their first offer.
DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT MAKE THREATS...like i'll never refer your company,
you'll just piss them off and will get nothing more than aggrevation.
Build a case and approach them logically and calmly and you should get some good resolution, make them feel like a friend.Never Threaten.
Good Luck and at least you weren't injured.

                              Re: So pissed off

If the accident was the other driver's fault then it the other driver's insurance company that is lowballing you. You don't have to accept their offer. I had a similar thing happen to me. I was at Home Depot buying some fence boards. Since I was buying a full lift of boards I asked them if they could load my truck with their forklift so that we would not have to hand bomb the 400+ boards. Long story short the forklift guy has a brain freeze and lowers that tang of this forklift on my tailgate which dented it down a foot. Home Depot does their insurance thing and their insurance guy offers me 50% of the lowest estimate of the cost to replace my tailgate if I got three estimates. I tell the guy I am not running all over town to get estimates and that I am not paying for 50% of the damage myself when it was 100% their fault. The insurance guy says "Take it or leave it". I think FU Jack and I talk to my own insurance company. Because I have collision insurance on my truck my insurance company said we will fight this for you. I was able to take my truck to any one of their approved repair shops and my truck was repaired perfectly at no cost to me. My insurance company ended up suing Home Depot and they got all their money. Lesson to be learned here.....They are trying to settle your claim for the lowest $$ they can. When they see that you are not a pussy they will come back with a better offer. I would recommend that you talk with your insurance company to go to bat for you in the dealings with this.
