Hey guys,
I'm looking for some help with a little something my family is trying to pull together. It takes almost no effort, but your help could really change someones life.
Mods....can a possible sticky for the next week?
Background:
About 3 weeks ago when it was really cold (-30) my mom was driving to work and saw this lady standing at the bus stop with a kid. The lady had no coat on and was using the thing tracksuit like jacket she had to shield her kid from the blowing snow. My mom saw this lady with snow falling on her bare shoulders and stopped and offered her a ride.
Turns out the lady is originally from the Caribbean moved here about 5 years ago with her husband. Husband ended up abusing her so she had to leave him but not after having 2 kids which are now 5 and 2. They have been living in a shelter somewhere down near the Marda Loop area, but the shelter has been sold and is closing down at the end of next week. The lady also has a niece who is with her who also comes from an abusive family.
What we are trying to do is give these people a Christmas that will change their lives. Calgary housing has agreed to find them an apartment, and my dad and some of his friends are going to fix it up (install blinds etc.) and my mom and people she knows are trying to pull together things to furnish the apartment.
These people literally have NOTHING
Below is a list of items we are looking for...anything will help. I know a lot of you must have old things you dont use anymore buried away in garage's and basements. This is a way to clean it out and really help someone in need. This is Christmas, the spirit of giving, and I don't know about you but opening a present on Christmas morning really isn't as fun when you know there are people who don't have a place to stay.
Please help us out and take a look through this list, if you have anything please post up what it is. We will even come and get it from you if its not too far to go.
