Viruses and spam!!

Hey everyone,
I clicked on that Britney spears link (who didn't) and now I seem to have a wicked virus. My computer doesn't seem slower but I'm getting all these warnings about spam and trojan etc. I'm a computer idiot so none of this really means much to me. The computer is suggestion I download all these anti virus/ anti spam software but I don't know what to trust. I currently don't have any type of anticirus software installed!!! Any help would be great!

hey derek i have been using AVG free antivirus for the past yr or so and it works good...try it out from here if you want

im no computer expert so there might be better out there? but this has worked great for me

Yes run AdAware and Spy Bot.. Those should remove the pop ups. I you use your pc allot then maybe you should actually get a AV (anti virus) program.. I like Trend Micro.. And stop clicking spam links...

I clicked the link, and got no alert/warnings and I have everything going. Was your computer up to date with patches and such?

Yeah, that was sneaky spam - I clicked it too. But like Geoff, didn't receive any warnings. It might be a good idea to get some anti-virus software like McAfee or Norton just to be on the safe side. It take about 20 mins to set up. It costs $100 or so and you simply download it from their website and it installs in a snap.

So does anyone know where the real Britney pics are?

avg is free antivirus software. I have actually had it remove a few things that norton wouldnt even detect... it's actually pretty good. (and free). It also seems to use less system resources then Norton.

We run a paid version of AVG on all our business machines and it seems to work very well, no problems here and I may have clicked that link too

virus and spam software is for n00bs i dont run any and no problems.

also its a conspiracy, norton for example writes new viruses on purpose to make you buy new versions of their software or purchase updates, why is this true? because recently microsoft said windows vista will be something like virus proof, not allowing anything to access critical parts of the OS without user permission. when norton heard this news they started bashing MS and complaining this shouldn't be... hmmm i wonder why

Ok so I downloaded Norton Antivirus ($55), spybot, adaware and AVG! Doesn't do a damn thing!! I woke up this morning with about 30 popups on my mointor. Its also saying the computer is infected with some sort of Trojan!! Don't know what to do!! Any one of you computer gurus want to come over and give me a hand? I can certainly pay you!

i don't know what you linked to,but i just use the google toolbar and it blocks the pop ups.
